Does commuting pay?

Every January we face a painful round of hikes in the cost of train and bus fares. This January the process was even more expensive than usual, with rises of 6% or more - plus additional charges for parking in train car parks. Meanwhile, the cost of petrol and diesel is going through the roof, and it can easily set you back more than £70 to fill the car with fuel.

The question is whether you are better off commuting, or cutting your losses and moving closer to work.
