Yesterday's UK company news was all about Tesco, with the blue-chip heavyweight crashing almost 16% in value in one day. The news helped drag down the FTSE 100 -8 points to 5,662. Trading was lukewarm on the continent with the German Dax rising 0.44% while the Dow Jones held more or less steady, 0.17% up, at 12,471. News that President Obama wants a $1.2 trillion borrowing rise may see some reaction today.
