Nearly 50% of Met officers on £47k

A new report claims the average British policeman earns £38,000 a year - pushing police into the top 20% of UK earners - once perks and cash bonuses are included. New figures from the Policy Exchange, a think tank, also claims that nearly 50% of Metropolitan Police officers earn more than £47,000. The numbers may make it easier for a new two-year pay freeze to come into force, plus bonus and overtime payment cuts.
