One week down and halfway through the Dakar Rally, the battle for top position between the Hummer and MINI teams looks like it will continue to the finish.
Stéphane Peterhansel and his MINI continue to hold a comfortable lead at the top of the overall standings, but it's the Hummer team that led the last stage before yesterday's rest day; with Nasser Saleh AL-Attiyah in the lead.
Only when the cars cross the line in Lima will the actual winner of the 2012 Dakar Rally be revealed, but there are still some tough stages to go before then.
For example, today's eighth stage is a 477km rollercoaster ride towards Antofagasta in Chile. Then tomorrow it is back to the sand, as the teams must negotiate and conquer a two kilometer super dune before getting to Iquique.
