A family of six were thrown off a US Airways plane by flight attendants after they tried to squeeze into the three seats.

Parents Kathy and Jason Fickes bought a ticket for their three-year-old, but not for their 20-month-old twins or eight-month-old baby.

They had planned to sit one child with their three-year-old, and each hold one on their lap, according to the Daily Mail.

But, after making it through check-in to board the flight from Charlotte in North Carolina to Chicago, flight attendants said there needed to be an adult with each child - and that there were not enough oxygen masks to go round.

Children under two are allowed to travel on the lap of paying adults for free, but the Ferderal Aviation Administration states there must be an oxygen mask for each flyer.

Mr Hickes said the family held up the plane for 'forty or fifty' minutes as they moved around trying to find a solution; one passenger even offered to buy them another ticket.

But they were finally asked to leave the plane by cabin crew, as the airline said it was made clear that each child under two years old must be accompanied by an adult when sharing a seat.

Mrs Fickes told ABC 7: 'I felt we were discriminated against because we had too many children in their eyes.'

US Airways refunded the family's tickets.
