Manchester Airport bosses have decided to move its customer call centre back to the local area - and ensure that all staff can talk the local lingo, too.

The current contact centre is based in Scotland, but will be moving back to the north west of England after hundreds of complaints that passengers could not understand the staff, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Bosses are hoping the move will be a job boost for locals looking for work, but there will also be linguistics experts on hand to to teach call centre workers the local accent, and to get them up to speed with informal phrases like 'hiya, you alright?", reports the Metro.

The airport's customer services manager, Daniel King, said: "We are creating a call centre that's based in the heart of the operation with friendly staff who understand the complexity of an airport environment.

"And whilst admittedly it does perhaps conform a little to the northern stereotype, we want all of our customer-facing staff to endorse a friendly, welcoming and helpful attitude to provide the highest level of customer service."

And, not only will the staff be up on all things Mancunian, but the holding music will also be Manchester-produced, and will include the likes of The Smiths, Oasis, and The Stone Roses.
