May began with Poundland keeping the pennies tight - and the picnic-ware cheap. Poundland raised eyebrows when its picnic-ware was recommended by Good Housekeeping magazine. Poundland also confirmed it was also moving into traditional middle class territory like Twickenham - a fascinating development and a move, we said, that could give the supermarkets pause.
