Rory McIlroy tees off in Dubai - from 1,053ft-high hotel helipad

Rory McIlroy was quite literally at the the top of his game as he teed off from a bunker over Jumeirah Beach - on the 1,053ft-high helipad on Dubai's Burj Al Arab hotel.

The 22-year-old US Champion from Northern Ireland is luxury hotel company Jumeirah Group's Global Brand Ambassador.

And he fulfilled his duties when spectacularly promoted the area by hitting his final shots of 2011 on the helipad at the seven-star hotel, which is the fourth highest hotel in the world.
It is set on an artificial island 920ft from Jumeirah Beach, and is connected to the mainland by a private bridge.

McIlroy, who just picked up the Northern Irish Personality Award, was watched by caddie JP Fitzgerald, and followed in the footsteps of Tiger Woods, as well as Andre Agassi and Roger Federer, who played on an artificial court on the helipad in 2007.
