The French Riviera is the playground for the rich and famous - but no amount of money can stop the force of nature.

And well-heeled tourists got a glimpse of what nature can conjure up as a rare tornado swirled off the coast of France between Nice and the upmarket island of Corsica today.

Photographer Lionel Cironneau captured this dramatic shot of the tornado, which isn't a common sight in the Mediterranean.

Tornadoes are usually formed in the US, but have even been known to hit England, with one causing havoc in Manchester just last month.
