New Lexus concept heading to Detroit
While motor show season 2011 is now over, the industry is gearing up for 2012's silly season to begin.
This morning we woke to news from Lexus that a new concept car is headed for the Motor City's show stands.
Very few details are known at the moment, but we do know it was designed by Calty – Lexus' design hub in Newport Beach, California.
The concept is said to show the future of Lexus' design direction, though we thought the new Cylon-esque GS was supposed to be doing that?
Because Lexus only released the very tiny teaser image above we feel it's only right to start some rumours...
Feel free to pick and choose whichever you'd like and just run with it.
1) Lexus' new concept car will be a luxury take on the Toyota GT 86. It'll come with a supercharged version of the Toyota/Subaru 2.0-litre boxer engine and around 270bhp. It's rumoured to only come in Hot Pink.
2) Moving away from the hybrid arena so loved by the Japanese firm, Lexus is about to show off an all-new 3.-litre quad-turbo diesel engine. Boasting 290bhp and 650lb ft, it's aiming squarely for the BMW 535d.
3) We're being taken for a bit of a ride. The car pictured isn't a concept of an actual car – it's the first in a line of ride-on models for kids. The range will mimic all the Lexus models currently on sale from the CT200h (£120.99, excl. VAT) to the LFA hypercar (£897.99, excl. VAT). However, the cars have been aesthetically to differentiate them from the road going models and avoid confusing the stupid.
If you've got one of your own, pop it in the comments.
