Weather forecasters say another bout of gale-force wind will hit Britain next Tuesday - just days after gusts of 165mph left a trail of destruction, and a £150 million repair bill.

Thursday's storm left Scotland and the North of England will cost insurers millions while traffic chaos saw work absences more than double.

Tim Ballisty from weather.com told The Sun: 'Next week's storm looks likely to cover the whole of the UK. It will certainly produce the same destructive power as Thursday's storm.'

This week's storm caused chaos as Scottish airports, with air passengers in Scotland telling of their terrifying experiences as planes coming in to land were battered by winds of up to 165 miles per hour.

An Easyjet flight from Bristol had a perilous landing, almost scraping its wing as it touched down on the runway at Edinburgh Airport during yesterday's massive storm.

Last night, the Met Office issued new severe weather alerts for potentially destructive gales of up to 75mph in the South next week.

There's also the possibility of torrential rain with the chance of flash flooding and transport disruption.

Jonathan Powell, of Positive Weather Solutions, told the Express: 'The winds are really going to pack a punch at the beginning of the week.

'And it is going to be the South East and then the South West which is in for it this time. More storms are also waiting. They are queuing up to hit us until possibly after the New Year.'

He said gales would give way to clear spells which will see temperatures drop to below freezing.

Mr Powell added: 'This is going to be the pattern for the next few weeks. The very strong winds will clear to allow temperatures to plunge, with wet roads rapidly turning to black ice and making driving treacherous.'
