After being battered by hurricane-force winds, much of Britain is to be hit by bitterly cold temperatures, frost, snow blizzards and more travel disruption over the next 24 hours.
The Met Office says that temperatures will plummet as low as -4C in Scotland, and -2 in northern England, while up to two inches of snow will fall in Scotland, the Penines and parts of North Wales. Snow and sleet is also predicted to spread south to Manchester.
Travel experts are warning of black ice in the north, and continuing wind and rain in the south.
The forecast follows a day when winds of up to 165mph hit Scotland, causing power outages, blocked roads, flooding and landslips.
Five men who were hiking in Scotland's Cairngorms went missing for two days. They have since been found safe and well following a massive rescue search.
The appalling conditions brought large areas of the country to a standstill. Lorries were blown over, roads and bridges closed, and were ferries cancelled. See the video below for eyewitness footage.
Spend Christmas in the sun!

If the Ancient Mayans had it right and the world is set to end on December 31, 2012, we may as well make the most of this, our last Christmas on earth. A two night stay (Dec 24/25) costs £352. keytel.co.uk
