New defence boss persists with job cuts

Servicemen and women probably thought they'd won an unexpected reprieve when Liam Fox was sacked as defence secretary.

After all, as the man to push through strategic defence and security review it was effectively his signature on a raft of P45s as 60,000 military and civilian jobs faced the axe.

So when he jumped, or was pushed, would that mean his austerity measures would be reviewed by the new boss?
