Another price hike? Ryanair checked-in baggage charges rise again

The chances of us checking luggage in on our next Ryanair flight just got even slimmer - as the airline have announced more price hikes for next year.

During the peak periods of June, July, August, September and Christmas in 2012, the airline will increase its checked-in baggage fee from £20 to £25 per bag for all online bookings made after 15 December 2011.

Checked-in bag fees paid at call centres and airports during the low season, from October to May, will increase from £35 to £60.

But in the high season (summer and Christmas) it will rise from £40 to £100.

The fee for a second bag will go up during the off season from £70 to £105 and from £80 to £135 during the summer and Christmas 2012.

Online checked-in bag prices during the low season of October to May will stay the same at £15 per bag.

Ryanair's Stephen McNamara said on the company's website: 'Over 70% of Ryanair passengers will be unaffected by these changes as they already travel with no checked-in bags and instead use Ryanair's free of charge 10kg carry on allowance.'

But the price hike news doesn't stop there: you'll want to make doubly sure you don't forget to print out your boarding pass to take to the airport next year, as Ryanair will also increase its 'boarding card reissue penalty' from £40 to £60, from 15 Jan 2012.

The airline says the move is to 'try to persuade the less than 10 passengers per day who refuse/fail to bring their boarding card (despite email reminders) to their departure airport as 99.9% of Ryanair passengers already do.'
