30-mile walk for Christmas shoppers

Shopper walking with bagsShoppers will walk an average of 30 miles trudging around stores buying Christmas presents and spend an hour and a half queuing every day, according to new research.

A study of 2,000 adults by London's Sanctuary Spa found that almost a third started their Christmas shopping at the end of October.
One in 10 of those questioned said waiting in long queues was the most stressful part of festive shopping, while 20% complained of suffering from back problems after a day walking around stores.

Katherine Bell of The Sanctuary said people walked huge distances shopping for Christmas presents without realising it, often carrying heavy bags.
