Ferrari 599XX: now with added hardcoreness
It's only allowed on the track. You have to pay through the nose for it. Realistically 99.99% of people will never see one. But we love the Ferrari 599XX. We also love the fact that it's now more awesome than before.
Modena's finest have been tinkering with the fearsome track beast and created the grand-sounding Evolution package. It promises much and knowing Ferrari it'll deliver.
If it doesn't there'll be some consequences (anger, wild arm gestures and loud Italian, mostly).
The Evolution pack adds a few vital things to the 599XX – more power, more downforce and Pirelli tyres.
The most interesting modification is the active aero pack. Much like an F1 car, the FXX's rear wing features two electronically adjustable flaps that are deployed depending on the vehicle's speed and current manoeuvre. The long and the short of it is you can either go very quickly until you get to a bend, then you'll take it with F1-esque precision.
They represent a new aerodynamic concept called 'opening gap' which uses system logic based on these parameters: steering wheel angle, longitudinal acceleration, lateral acceleration and vehicle speed. With the flaps open you get 330kg of downforce, closed you're looking at 440kg.
As well as the 'leccy flaps, the Evolution package gives the 599XX a modified front splitter and a new rear diffuser. It's all very trick and designed to make you look like some sort of hero.
Extra power is also thrown at the 599XX – 20bhp in fact. There's now 750bhp and 516lb ft to play with and if you take 35kgs of weight shedding into account you know the 599XX will be rip-your-face-off fast. Side exhausts are responsible for the extra grunt but don't only serve that purpose, they look awesome as well.
If you want it you'll have to beg Ferrari for a chance to play after its official unveiling at the Bologna Motor Show.
