Jenson Button secures runner-up spot

Jenson Button finished the Brazilian Grand Prix in third position, a result that puts him second behind world champion Sebastian Vettel in the drivers' standings. Despite the podium, the race was far from straightforward for the McLaren driver who was disappointed with his pace on the soft tyres. Button succeeded in defending his P3 grid position at the start but had to yield to Fernando Alonso one third of the way through the race.

"Alonso closed the gap on Turn 5 when I was on the soft tyres," said the Englishman. "I tried to hold him off, but the inside of the track was dirty. It was probably debris from Schumacher's tyre blowout. Obviously I didn't want drive through all of that, but I couldn't turn left either because Alonso was already there."
