Clarkson 'stumbles' onto The Sweeney set, bags cameo role
Just days after Ford released 'spy shots' of the new Focus ST on the set of The Sweeney, yet more profile-raising news has emerged about the movie: Jeremy Clarkson has stumbled into a role, apparently.
According to the Daily Mail, Clarkson was filming a sequence for a forthcoming Top Gear episode in Kent when he happened to be "spotted by The Sweeney crew," who were also shooting in the area.
The serendipitous meeting of production teams resulted in Clarkson being persuaded to take a small role in the movie. Or as the Mail puts it, "to star" in it.
Clarkson's pivotal role reportedly sees him standing next to a red Jag while something exciting happens nearby.
But we understand that this was no accident; separate camera crews are as likely to clash as commercial aeroplanes.
It's more likely that Clarkson and crew were there with the agreement of The Sweeney's producers – which suggests Top Gear is filming some sort of tie-in. Could it be a spoof of the classic '70s cop drama? You heard it here first.
Meanwhile, Clarkson's partner-in-crime, Richard Hammond, has been revealing what fans can expect at Top Gear Live at London's ExCel this weekend.
Top Gear series 18 will begin in January on BBC Two, then on Dave a couple of years later. There's probably a DVD due out for Christmas too, if it's not already.
