Volkswagen shows Passat Alltrack faux-by-four

Volkswagen has revealed the new Passat Alltrack ahead of its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show. The Alltrack is based on the very same principle as the Audi Allroad, and should provide a nice budget alternative for farmers and those interested in estates with plastic wheel arches.

The Alltrack uses VW's 4Motion Haldex clutch four-wheel drive system. In normal driving conditions it sends 90 percent of the power to the front axle and the other ten to the rear, but it can send up to 100 percent drive rearwards if necessary.
