A tourist enjoying a holiday in Mauritius was shocked to see his home being burgled 5,000 miles away - via security cameras linked up to his iPad.

The unnamed victim said he had been stunned to see his home being ransacked when he logged on to check his property.

The suspected thieves had reportedly made two trip to his house in Melbourne, knowing the owner was away on a sunshine break.

But they were totally unaware that their actions were being recorded by webcams hooked up to the internet.

According to the Daily Mail, the home owner said: 'I was shocked. I was watching them for a good two minutes before I called the cops. I didn't know what to do.'

Police arrived on the scene and arrested two men after the victim's long-haul tip-off.

Police spokeswoman Bianca Aitken was one of three officers who arrived at the house. She said: You obviously have CCTV footage, which helps, but to actually get them on an iPad from the other side of the world is a pretty good find, I think.'

According to the Herald Sun, both men have been charged with burglary and theft and are due to appear in court next month.

Mauritius is a hugely popular paradise island tourist destination that lies in the Indian Ocean around 5,200 miles north west of the victim's home in Melbourne.
