US deficit talk deadlocked

The US now faces another downgrade unless politicians cut the wrangling and agree on a $1.2 trillion deficit reduction plan. So far there is no sign that they will, unless a last-minute deal is cobbled together. It could still happen - it needs to happen. If the US can't get its act together, the consequences for investors and consumers may be severe.
