Concern as shopper numbers plunge

The UK's beleaguered high street last month suffered the biggest fall in shopper numbers since December's Arctic blizzards, a survey has revealed.

Footfall dropped 4.7% in October as a "toxic mix" of soaring fuel bills squeezed consumers' income levels and the eurozone debt crisis sapped confidence, according to the British Retail Consortium (BRC).
