Five-door Audi A1 Sportback to hit showrooms next year
If the three door Audi A1 appeals but isn't practical enough to squeeze your parents, child or shopping easily in the back perhaps the new five-door Sportback will appeal to you.
The new car is 6mm taller and wider than the three-door, which has been criticized for having a cramped rear bench. It'll hit showrooms in early 2012 with the same four-engine line up as the three-door did late in 2010. The Sportback will come with three petrol units (a 1.2 and a 1.4 TSI unit) with power outputs ranging from 84-184bhp and a 103bhp 1.6-litre diesel which emits just 99g/km CO2.
Next year it'll receive the three-door's 2.0-litre 141bhp, 184lb ft hot-diesel engine. It'll get you to 62mph in 8.5 seconds and manage 68.9mpg, which is a neat performance/economy trade off. The MINI Cooper SD will have a bit of a fight on its hands...
Want one? The order books are open now for deliveries next spring. You will have to pay a bit of a premium, though. A 1.2 SE will set you back £13,980 – that's £560 more than the three-door.
