Tories fight £10k party donation cap

Another day, another Coalition rift. An independent inquiry has recommended a big hike in state funding of political parties worth £100 million over a five-year parliament. It was proposed, and strongly pushed by the Lib Dems, because of the caps on individual donations to parties.

However a leaked document suggests the Tories will now oppose a £10,000 cap on individual donations - the cornerstone of an attempt to clean up public life.
