Pick of the early market news

Yesterday's numbers were somewhat baffling. Lloyds Banking Group, despite grim results, saw the Black Horse make some big gains. Meanwhile political Italian tremors did little to ruffle the FTSE 100; it closed 56 points higher at 5,567; Berlusconi has pledged to stand down but it could also be a ploy to buy time, of course.
