Danish Bulldog (GT): HBH builds mid-engined 'Aston Martin'

The car above looks like an Aston, goes like an Aston and sounds like an Aston (we're guessing), but it's not an Aston Martin. The Bulldog GT, designed by Danish firm HBH, is a mid-engined take on the Aston Martin V12 Vantage.

You may be wondering who HBH is. We can't blame you – we didn't know either until someone pointed out that the company designed the awesome Zenvo ST1.
Under the bonnet sits... nothing because the engine is in the middle, which means better weight distribution. It's powered by a twin supercharged version of the 6.0-litre V12 you'll find in the Rapide, DBS, DB9, Virage and V12 Vantage.

With a couple of blowers bolted to it, the Bulldog squirts out 666bhp and 548lb ft o' twist. HBH reckons that's enough to get it from 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds and on to 186mph. Though 666bhp should get it going a little quicker than that...

Under its hand-beaten aluminium body sits a modified V12 Vantage chassis. So it'll handle rather well indeed.

We like the way it looks, as though an Audi R8 spent a little time in a broom cupboard with an Aston Martin One-77. It seems to be well proportioned compared to the 'regular' Aston shape.

One of HBH's spokespeople, Jesper Hermann, spoke to Classic Driver about the car: "During the design process, aerodynamics have played a crucial role. The final design will undergo virtual and real aerodynamic testing to obtain the perfect balance between styling and aerodynamic capabilities."

It was originally supposed to be a one-off for a private client (who owns 50 percent of the design and production rights to the car), but HBH's Torben Hartvig thinks it could see a limited run: "If there is a market for a small series, which we strongly believe there is, and the client would like us to produce a small series, then this is what we will do.

"We believe this project is an opportunity to be a part of automotive history and, at the same time, make a potentially good investment."

A prototype will be ready in 2013 and you'll probably find us next to it. Dribbling like hounds.
