The Bank of England is certainly a powerful economic institution and we rely on those who head it to give us wise counsel on the nation's finances. But should they be allowed to keep secrets?

Because according to the chairman of the bank's court – its equivalent to a board – Sir David Lees says its discussions should remain private even though they affect you and me.
