Samsung tries injuncting iPhone 4S

Picture of an iPhone 4SSamsung has launched litigation against Apple - yes again - this time trying to block sales of the iPhone 4S in Japan and Australia. Yes this is peculiar behaviour from a company which deferred a launch as a mark of respect for Steve Jobs but this is how these businesses behave.
It follows lawsuits in France and elsewhere in which Samsung claims Apple infringed its patents. In Australia the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is banned because of court action.

Confusion

That's the understated sub-heading of the century. Just to add more wrinkles to this, a judge last week a judge in the US said Apple did indeed have the rights to the technologies over which it is suing Samsung in that country - but that Apple still had to prove its case had merit.

In Germany the Galaxy Tab is still banned. Samsung is appealing both that and the American decision.

Best guess is that all of these things will be temporary and that the companies will eventually have to start competing on the strength and weakness of their particular products. Even better guess is that this is unlikely to happen in the near future - they're having far too much fun damaging each other's share price, bless them.
