Olympic athletes are to get their own terminal at Heathrow Aiport for one day after the London 2012 Olympic Games finish.

The temporary terminal, nicknamed the Games Terminal, which will have eight security lanes, will be built in a cargo area at Heathrow, one of the world's busiest airports.

to help ease the pressure at the airport, a check-in and bag-drop area will be created at the Olympic athletes' village: more than 60,000 bags are expected to pass through, as well as sports equipment such as javelins and canoes.

Athletes will use the terminal on August 13 2012, which bosses expect to be their busiest day ever, with 137,000 passengers due to depart.

Nick Cole, Heathrow's head of Olympics, said: "We will be able to process 10,000 athletes and support staff on that day in the Gamers terminal."
