The country's biggest private sector pension funds have once more plunged £200 billion in the red after stock market falls and collapsing government bond returns added to their woes over the last few weeks.

New figures from the Pension Protection Fund indicate that the yawning black hole in their funding has grown by a massive £80 billion in less than a month.
