Self-pity among MPs knows no depths it seems after their in-house doctor yesterday said that the poor lambs are citing the new expenses regime as the cause of mental anguish.

Dr Ira Madan, told a committee looking at the effectiveness of the new expenses regime, that MPs had complained to her about the pressure they felt under from a number of occupational hazards like jokes from the public about their expenses, problems with having family to stay during the school holidays and the ease with which constituents could contact them by email.
