Soaring living costs, record levels of youth unemployment and the continuing difficulty in getting on the property ladder are forcing young people to stay at home for longer - or rent for years on end.

Generation rent becomes a reality as thousands of young people kiss good-bye to their dream of owning their own home. But for many, even renting is becoming too expensive and they end up staying at home with mum and dad for longer than they'd like to.
