Blackpool's 'Angel of the North': £14m Comedy Carpet unveiled by the sea

A £14 million 'Comedy Carpet' paying homage to Britain's comic greats like Frankie Howerd and Bruce Forsyth has been unveiled in Blackpool.
Designed by British artist Gordon Young, The Comedy Carpet is a giant map immortalising the UK's favourite comedians and comic writers from the hey day of Music Hall to 21st century stand up.
It gives a nod to legendary acts like Tommy Cooper, Les Dawson and Morecambe and Wise.
It sits on the new Festival Headland beneath Blackpool Tower, and famous phrases like Bruce's 'Nice to see you - to see you... nice', can be viewed all the way from its summit.

The 1,880msq artwork took five years to compete and its catchphrases, jokes, and sketches are made up of over 160,000 letters individually cut from black and red granite and cobalt blue concrete.
It was unveiled by legendary comedian Ken Dodd, and officials at the resort have affectionately dubbed it our 'Angel of the North... but horizontal'.
