Rare outing for Colin McRae Subaru Legacy at Rally of Scotland

This exquisite little number we're holding up is Colin McRae's Manx Rally-winning Subaru Legacy from 1991.

As lovely as it is - and I'd whipped it off the shelves of St Martin's Models in London before you could say 'turbo lag' - it is still only a 1:43 model and as we all know there's nothing like the real thing.
Which is why if you're north of the border this weekend (7-9 October) you could do worse than getting along to Perthshire where McRae's father, Jimmy, will drive Colin's 1991 British Rally Championship-winning Legacy as course car on the Rally of Scotland, the penultimate round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. It's all part of the rally's partnership with the Colin McRae Vision charity which was set up in his memory to help underprivileged children.

The Legacy, which has appeared at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and on the McRae Stages, will be making its first appearance on an international rally since 1992 when McRae took second place on the Swedish Rally and will be decked out in its original white, pink and green livery from the period.

If you can't make it to Scotland though, we would recommend this model version. Although not in the same colours, the Legacy does come in two famous guises, the Rothmans colours seen here and the 1993 New Zealand Rally-winning 555 model that means another trip for us down the Charing Cross Road.
