Flights to and from Greece were cancelled today because of a walkout by local air traffic controllers who joined the national 24 hour strike in protest against government cuts.

Train and ferry services were also disrupted as thousands took part in the latest strike called by members of the General Union of Greek Employees.

British Airways cancelled eight flights to and from Heathrow, while Easyjet cancelled 30 flights to destinations including Corfu, Rhodes, Heraklion and Athens. A further six Easyjet flights have been delayed until Thursday.

Ryanair cancelled a total of 16 flights from Stansted and Liverpool.

All three airlines are allowing passengers to claim a full refund or rebook for alternative dates free of charge.
