As if he wasn't cute enough already, this 16-week-old puppy has been hailed a hero after helping to save the life of a swimmer in distress on a Swansea beach.

Richard Absolom was taking his pooch Wilson for a walk along the beach in Mumbles, Swansea, when the Doberman Pinscher suddenly started barking loudly.

Curious, Richard glanced out to sea to find out what had upset his oh-so-cute pup, when he spotted a swimmer in trouble.

The man in question had gone for a dip to cool off in the unusually high temperatures but had run in to difficulties after getting caught in a riptide.

Richard, who is a member of the Mumbles Lifeboat crew, quickly organised a rescue from the nearby lifeboat station and even joined the crew himself.

The swimmer was then safely brought to shore, and Richard said he doubted he would have even noticed the swimmer had it not been for 'watchdog' Wilson.

He's obviously a new mutt-have member of the crew...
