BTCC set for unprecedented five-way finale
Any one of five drivers could take the British Touring Car Championship title at Silverstone on 16 October – a scenario that's never happened before going into the final weekend's racing.
Matt Neal, Jason Plato, Gordon Shedden, Mat Jackson and James Nash are all in the frame after a stunning weekend at Brands Hatch saw Jason Plato haul himself back into the thick of the title race with two wins in three three races.
You can read our full Brands Hatch report here, a weekend that will be remembered for Plato's tenacious pursuit of the title; his two wins leave him and Gordon Shedden tied on 220 points, just five points behind leader Matt Neal, having gone into the weekend 24 points behind.
With 52 points up for grabs and 44 separating first from fifth there's everything to play for although after his display this weekend, Plato might feel he's favourite to claim successive titles for the Silverline Chevrolet team.
The nail-biting finale won't harm the BTCC's TV viewing figures either which have jumped by 43 per cent compared to last season. Mind, it probably also helps that rivals Plato and Neal seem to enjoy shouting at each other like an old couple.
