4.5 / 5 stars

Set in two acres of glorious Cornish countryside, Greenacres Cottages offers secluded luxury without the usual price tag. The complex, comprised of 10 cottages, is well set up to cater for groups who want to holiday together but need their own space, and it's all perfectly placed to explore the nearby beaches and the Eden Project.

What's to love?
The setting for starters. And the facilities. Kids will love the play area and the heated swimming pool, while for adults private hot tubs feature in some of the cottages. Beaches are within easy reach and the nearest town is just 5 miles away.

First impressions

The cottages are built from local Cornish stone, so despite being just three years old, they really fit into the natural landscape. The cottages also are a great vantage point to take in the stunning surrounding countryside views. Check in took a while though: we had to hunt to find our welcome pack though and eventually found it hidden in the safe!

This place is perfect if you...

...want a high-quality self-catering retreat to get away from it all. We particularly enjoyed taking in the stars with a glass of bubbly while relaxing in the jacuzzi . The cottages are also very well-equipped, with all of the kitchen essentials you'd need to create a culinary masterpiece. Grab some fresh fish from nearby Fowey or simply drive down to one of the local supermarkets to grab all that you need for the weekend.

Best rooms in the house

We stayed in the fantastic corner cottage (pictured), which probably the best views of the valley from the terrace (and jacuzzi). It featured a double en-suite bedroom, a twin room and a double sofa bed in the living room space. There was also a roomy separate kitchen with dining table.

Where to eat/drink

When not flexing your culinary muscles, Cornwall is brimming with great restaurants including; Rick Stein's Seafood restaurant in Padstow and Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant in Watergate Bay.

Things to do, places to see...

Just three miles from the cottages is the fantastic Eden Project. The centre offers a truly memorable day out for the whole family with its stunning gardens, unique biomes and over 4000 species of plants. If you are planning a trip there, buy your tickets online to receive discounts of up to 15 per cent. A short distance away you can visit the beaches of Polperro, have a cornish cream tea in St Ives or go partying in Newquay.
