Many of Britain's beaches were packed this weekend as the predicted 'mini-Indian summer' got off to a balmy start. Temperatures reached 23 degrees centigrade in parts of the south east on Sunday, and forecasters at the Met Office say that signs suggest that we're in for several days of warm and dry weather, with temperatures as high as 26 degrees by mid-week - the perfect week for a stay-cation.

Brighton beach (pictured, photo: PA) drew hordes of daytrippers who sat and basked in the sunshine and paddled in the sea on Sunday. And there were plenty of opportunities to enjoy a pint or two in the sunshine too.

But who knows what's in store over the next few weeks? It was only a few days ago that some weather experts predicted snow in October... better make the most of the sunshine while we can!
