A woman drank almost a pint of whisky before allegedly groping a Virgin air steward and demanding sex.

Katherine Goldberg, 25, who works in education, was flying home from South Africa after visiting relatives, when she drunkenly assaulted the cabin crew member 'by demanding to have sex with him and grabbing his penis and crotch area', according to prosecuting lawyer Stella Waata.

She added: 'She was believed to have drunk at least 50 centilitres of whisky.'

Ms Goldberg, of Ealing Common, west London, appeared before magistrates at Uxbridge charged with one count of sexual assault on a male, and another of being drunk in an aircraft.

Her lawyer, Francis Brennan, appealed to the Crown to let her off one charge with a caution, saying: 'It is a serious allegation but there are good reasons why it would be in the public interest for the Crown to deal with her by way of a caution.'

Ms Goldberg was granted bail and will appear in the same court next Wednesday.
