Mercedes-Benz celebrations on London to Brighton run
It seems 2011 is a historical year for car manufacturers. Ford of Britain celebrates its centenary, peaking at the Goodwood Revival this weekend, Nissan commemorates 25 years of UK production and now Mercedes-Benz and Bosch will mark their 125th anniversaries by sponsoring the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.
The car manufacturer and parts supplier will enter what is expected to be the largest collection of early Benz, Daimler and Mercedes cars joining a host of pre-1905 automobiles from around the globe with senior directors from Bosch and Mercedes-Benz piloting veteran vehicles on the 60-mile challenge from Hyde Park to Madeira Drive.
More than 500 entries have already been received for the prestigious event including the oldest car signed up for the run, an 1894 Benz Victoria.
It all kicks off Friday 4 November in New Bond Street with a Bonhams auction featuring period vehicles, parts and automobilia. On Saturday, a Concours d'Elegance judging will take place for around 100 of the participants while another 80 'future cars' will arrive from the Brighton to London RAC Future Car Challenge and on Sunday is the Veteran Run.
