Up to a third of households in some cities "workless"

Almost one in three households in some areas of the country relied solely on benefits last year, new figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) reveal.

And the cities where the jobless rates are highest have held that dubious honour for the past two years, reflecting the stagnant state of the economy in recent times.
