Law to give new rights for live-in couples abandoned

Co-habiting couples are often surprised to discover they do not have the same rights as those who are married, and this is how the law is set to remain, at least for now.

In a victory for family campaigners last night, the Ministry of Justice abandoned plans to give a series of new legal entitlements to unmarried couples.
