Ford announces super frugal Focus and Fiesta

Ford is cocking a snoot at the petrol-electric cars on display at the Frankfurt motor show and showing off a pair of small diesels it claims will be the cleanest non-hybrids available in Europe.

The Ford Focus Econetic Technology is the real eye-catcher, with CO2 emissions of just 89g/km and a fuel economy of 83.1mpg, as it should be the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid car in Europe when it goes on sale. IT uses a 106bhp 1.6-litre diesel engine.
