Shocked tourists spot dog at freezing peak of Mount Kilimanjaro

Tourists - and experts - have been left flummoxed after spotting a stray dog at the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa.

The mountain's summit is more than 19,000ft above sea level, and vets have been trying to work out how the dog a) made it up there, and b) what it's been living on.

Kilimanjaro's Uhuru Peak is so high that temperatures usually sit below freezing.

Tanzanian tour guide Abel Edward told the Daily Mail: 'When the tourists showed us the picture of the dog we could not believe it.

'How did it survive in such freezing cold and what was it eating?'

Lying in northern Tanzania near the border with Kenya, Kilimanjaro is the fourth highest of the Seven Summits - the name given to the highest mountains on each of the seven continents.

Around 25,000 people attempt to reach its peak every year but, owing to the effects of altitude sickness, roughly only two-thirds make it.
