Donnafugata Golf Resort and Spa

Nestled deep in the Baroque Sicilian countryside, close to the ancient town of Ragusa and with a private beach club nearby, the five star Donnafugata Golf Resort and Spa is set in an idyllic location, perfect for anyone wanting to escape to a quiet haven for true relaxation.

But what can a resort which mainly focuses on golf offer a golfing virgin?

I arrived at Donnafugata Golf Resort as someone whose golfing experience extended to playing (and losing) the odd game of crazy golf at British seaside resorts.

In my mind, golf was for people with money and time on their hands and while this demographic that I'd imagined will certainly enjoy Donnafugata, they're not the only ones who get a kick out of wacking a small white ball 200 yards.

It's true, I confess: I am now a golfing convert. After three mornings of training with champion golfer Gary, the hotels in-house tutor, I was allowed out on to the resort's beautiful golf courses to try my hand at the game for real.

True, the blue sky and Sicilian sun may have had something to do with the endorphin rush. But after three days of trying, I have apparently developed great swing, and I'm now thinking of taking up the sport back home.

So for everyone whose partner plays golf and is fed up of being left out, or for anyone interested in golf, spas, sunshine, traditional and delicious Sicilian food and wine (how can that not be everyone?) check out our review and pictures from Donnagufugata Golf Resort and Spa below.
