Webber leads Alonso in practice at Belgian GP

Spa lived up to its reputation for wet weather this afternoon. At the beginning of the 90-minute second session, the track was still wet in places. The surface then dried out and the lap times came tumbling down. Fernando Alonso was the first driver to go out on slicks and post a time of under two minutes, which livened up the proceedings.

In the morning, the Ferrari man had been anonymous at P11, but he emerged from the afternoon session as second fastest to Mark Webber in his RB7. Taking third position on the day was Jenson Button. Half way through the session, rain set in again, and the drivers all parked up in the pits. "Even though Mark posted the fastest time today, things didn't go 100% to plan," revealed Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko. "Because of the rain, we were unable to tick off everything on our programme. Mark only had time to complete one fast lap on the option tyres."
