Cheryl and Ashley Cole have scrapped plans for a romantic holiday on Sir Richard Branson's Necker Island after this week's massive fire.

The couple, who are back together after divorcing a year ago, had fancied a relaxing trip to the tycoon's £90 million Caribbean hideaway but the the 14-bedroom Great House was gutted by fire when lightning struck.

Film star Kate Winslet, who was a guest, carried Branson's mother to safety.

According to the Sun, Cheryl had always wanted to visit the Virgin billionaire's plush home.

They are now looking other holiday destinations including Roman Abramovich's home in St Barts. They plan to take a short holiday when Ashley's soccer duties with Chelsea and England allow.

A source said: "Cheryl and Ashley were gue to go to Necker Island but obviously that's out of the question. They have other places they could go for a short romantic trip away though."
