Button worried about tyres

McLaren's two drivers secured third and fourth place in free practice, but after today's two practice sessions, neither of them was prepared to make any predictions, due to the changeable nature of the Spa weather. Nevertheless, Lewis Hamilton was relatively pleased with his day: "Nothing much was happening, because of the variable conditions, but we posted a few shake-down laps in the dry, and were able to test a few things like wing settings to ascertain the correct level of downforce."

Team-mate Jenson Button especially enjoyed his drive on a fast-drying track: "It was great fun, because the car is running so well. It's a different story in the wet, though!" The unpredictable weather should make for an interesting race weekend; some drivers were trying to conserve wets during practice. Hamilton: "Nobody knows how the weather will turn out, which is why everyone was so keen to save tyres." Button included, he too hopes third practice will be dry: "I think conditions for qualifying will be wet, and the race itself will be very tough as regards tyres. I hope we get some more time in the dry, so that we don't run out of wets."
