Scrapped quango fat cats have last laugh with mega redundancy payments

Updated

No one mourned the decision to scrap the bureaucratic and wasteful Regional Development Agencies and thanks to the massive redundancies being paid out, even the people who worked at the quangos will be celebrating their demise.

Because, unlike in the private sector where redundancy payments pretty much stick to the statutory requirement of a week's pay for every year worked, the former RDA employees have been hoovering up cash and when the dust settles and 800 staff are paid off, the bill for the taxpayer will be around £23million and that's just from seven of the nine bodies.
